I love quotes. Lately, I have been reading lots and lots of quotes from people who are living lives or have done things that I admire or respect. Their advice is sooooooooo different from the sort of well-meaning advice I get all the time. I keep telling people close to me that I feel like I’m standing on thin air right now. There is nothing in my life that says, “everything’s OK! You’re doing the right things! Stay the course!” right now. I have no reason to believe that my life is anything but a shambles right now – except . . . Well, except for the fact that I know that I have been following God and He won’t fail me. And except that those who have gone before me keep telling me that where I am at is just the dark before the dawn. Except that I know that when you find yourself in a dark place because you’ve been living in a good way, the darkness is only as dark as the brightness of the day will be when it gets here.
So here’s my challenge for you: who are you going to believe? Your own fears and all the people around you nice, safe, neat lives? Or the promises of God and the testimony of those who have gone this way before?
In Phillipians 4:8, Paul (someone who lived a life and did things I respect and admire) says:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
So, that’s what I’m going to keep doing – finding my quotes and letting them drown out anything that isn’t good enough to be allowed access to my brain. How about you?
